According to a U.S. Department of Agriculture weekly report released Monday, July 1, most of the corn acreage and 92% of the soybean acreage grown in the main producing states are currently planted, with 94% corn and 83 % soybeans, but the state of the corn is very different.
The general condition of corn in 18 leading manufacturing states is about the same as last week - 56% rated it as good and excellent. In the eastern corn belt, conditions worsened.
Corn in Ohio was rated “good” or “excellent” by 31% of the area, compared with 39% last week. Corn in Indiana - from 39% to 43%; in Illinois - from 42% to 42%. The Iowa crop improved slightly, from 62% a good week earlier to an excellent 64%.
Corn in Nebraska is one of the best: 74% of the crops were rated good or excellent, slightly down from 77% last week. Crop of soybeans in the country from last week unchanged: 54% of the area is assessed as "good" and "excellent", but last year this figure was 71%.
Harvesting of winter wheat has now been completed by 30% against 48% of the five-year average for this time of year. As expected, Texas is nearing completion: the harvest is 81% versus 82% on average.
