It is expected that Russia's self-sufficiency in milk will increase with the help of the state. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
For 2022, tons of milk in 2019, increasing this figure by 2% compared to last year.
This level of milk production should be ensured by the number of cows, which today in Russia totals approximately 8 million heads.
According to the Milknews analytical center, Russian cows produced 24.2 million tons of milk from January to September 2019. This was 1.7% more than the same period last year. According to market observers, further growth may be slowed by weak consumer demand and expansion of Russian imports.
In Russia there are now about 250 breeds of cows. The most popular of them remains black and white.
Imports of dairy products increased by 16% in the first three quarters of this year compared to the same period last year to 5.0 million tons, and its value increased by 22 percent, to 2.04 million US dollars. The main imported dairy products were cheese and cottage cheese, which accounted for 40% of the total volume and butter with 23%.
84% of imported cheese, including cottage cheese, came from Belarus, 4% from Serbia, 3% from Argentina and 9% from other countries. Exports of dairy products from Russia also increased by 4% in the reporting period to 477.8 thousand tons.
