In the 2018/19 marketing year, sugar beet processing in Ukraine was carried out by 42 sugar factories, which produced 1 million 820 thousand tons.

Last year's carry-over sugar reserves at the beginning of the current marketing year are estimated at 390 thousand tons, which corresponds to the four-month demand of the Ukrainian domestic market, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy said.

Taking into account our own production of sugar from sugar beets and carryover stocks, the domestic market is fully saturated with beet sugar of our own production. At the same time, an export potential of at least 600 thousand tons was created.

According to operational data obtained from the regions, as of May 13, 2019, sugar beets were sown on an area of ​​218 thousand ha, which is 89% of the forecast.

Even according to the most pessimistic forecasts (with low productivity and sugar content of raw materials over the past three years, respectively at 475 kg / ha and 16.2%), 10-10.5 million tons of sugar beets can be obtained from the sown area.

This will allow producing 1.3-1.35 million tons of sugar, which will fully satisfy the needs of the domestic market of Ukraine for the 2019/20 MY season.
