On the territory of the Crimean peninsula for the first time in the last two years, an outbreak of rabies was recorded among the livestock of local cattle.
Based on the information shared by the press center of the Southern Interregional Branch of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, a case of rabies was registered in the Saki region of the Republic of Crimea.
It was there, in the vastness of the village of Glinka, local cows became a victim of the rabies virus. It is known that the affected livestock refers to the assets of one of the local subsidiary farms.
It should be noted that rabies in cows proceeds in an acute form, affecting the nervous system. Infection is transmitted through the bite of sick animals. From the site of the bite, the virus spreads through the nerve trunks to the brain and spinal cord. In most cases, the result of rabies in cattle is death.
Based on the information received regarding rabies in animals, the head of the republic, Sergei Aksyonov, ordered the introduction of quarantine conditions in the village of Glinka.
The decree came into force, and at the moment, agricultural producers of the village, as well as pastoralists and other representatives of the agro-industrial sphere, are strictly prohibited from selling meat and domestic animals, as well as transporting livestock or meat products outside the quarantine zone.
