The Irish grain growing group called on agricultural and lobby lobby groups to explain why grain shipments are being imported while Irish tillage farms have their own grain stocks.
The representative of the Group said that Irish grain remains in the barns, while imports arrive in record quantities.
“Why do they allow grain and feed trucks to arrive in Ireland, while Irish grain, not used by traders and millers, is in the sheds. It is completely unacceptable for the Ministry of Agriculture to support such actions, especially when grain prices have fallen by about 25% over the past six months, ”he said.In Ireland, some farmers who have grain for sale find themselves in a situation where they practically ask traders and millers to take part of their grain in order to ease their financial situation with cash payments to banks and creditors. As a result, they find themselves in a bad negotiating position. The group calls on Minister Creed and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food to ensure that Irish grain is given priority in the future.
“This is a diabolical situation that we find ourselves in, if after three feed crises for two years, millers and merchants prefer imported grain to Irish grain,” the farmers say.
