Already today in Buryatia, local scientists are forming a special storage for seeds of rare plants. Medicinal herbs and flowers that grow on the Baikal natural territory and are on the verge of total extinction, as well as crops listed in the Red Book, will be protected in a special Bank, the cost of which, according to preliminary estimates, is estimated at 7 million rubles.
Almost 5 million of this amount will be allocated from the Presidential Grants Fund. Thus, enthusiasts who are not indifferent to the fate of endangered crops will be able to protect such rare plants as: Rhodiola rosea, Scutellaria baicalensis, Ural licorice root, Rhododendron Adams, bulbs of unique lilies, etc.
The reason for the creation of the bank was also the fact that enterprising residents of the Baikal region are actively collecting medicinal wild plants (including rare ones, as well as those listed in the Red Book) and are actively selling them as environmentally friendly and medicinal products in the Mongolian and Chinese markets. As a result, less and less unique and valuable cultures remain in Russia.
To replenish the seed bank, special expeditions will be created, the task of which will be to collect and procure planting materials. Storage specialists intend to cover the entire Baikal natural territory.
