This year, African swine fever will spread to farms in France, affect German animals, and also cause significant damage to agriculture in southeast Asia. Such forecasts are made by experts of Rosselkhoznadzor, who assure: the probability of error is extremely small.

The consequences of the epidemic, says Supervisor Sergei Dankvert, can be dire for Thai, Vietnamese pastoralists as well as pig owners in the Philippines.

“We make such bold conclusions and statements, since the forecasts of the spread of the pathogen to European countries in 2018 were fully realized,” says Dankvert.

It is worth noting that the specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor did not take into account how much ASF will affect pigs in China and Mongolia. In their defense, experts noted that the extent of the virus is uncontrollable.

We add that in January 2018, African swine fever infiltrated Latvia, affected about thirty farms in Romania and killed animals on nineteen Belgian farms.
