As of May 1, 2019, 46 thousand 143 farms were registered in Ukraine, which is 489 more than at the beginning of this year, when 45 thousand 654 such farms were recorded.
The trend towards an increase in the number of farmers indicates the formation of Ukrainian farming and its competitiveness in the conditions of the agricultural market, said Viktor Sheremeta, deputy minister of agrarian policy and food.
The Government of Ukraine for 2 years has been introducing new financing tools and mechanisms to support small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, including farmers. But to say that farming is being popularized only thanks to state support is not possible, as there are other reasons that affect the development of entrepreneurship in the village, Viktor Sheremeta says.According to the official, in Ukraine, many interesting types of activities are being launched to produce niche products that are in great demand among restaurants. This is the cultivation of snails, mushrooms, etc.
Many farmers want to work on the land and at the same time develop their rural community. A large number of entrepreneurs create business in small areas of 1-2 hectares, which they inherited from their parents. In addition, Sheremeta emphasizes that some farmers are still working in the shade. The way out of it will give them the opportunity to express themselves in organized agricultural markets and receive state support.
