On the territory of Spanish gardens, the production of citrus crops is significantly reduced.
Over the past five years, Spanish farmers have not been able to reach the record volumes of production that were recorded in 2014. Fortunately, in the neighboring European countries of Spain - Greece and Portugal - citrus production does not slow down.
Such information was shared by representatives of the press service of the Ministry of Agronomy and Rural Development of the European Commission. The department also emphasizes that the situation with Spanish citruses is worrying.
Due to the fact that in Spain the production of oranges, lemons and other citrus crops is declining, the value of these farm products is starting to rise in the European market. And today, the average cost of hundreds of kilograms of oranges in the EU markets is five euros lower than a year earlier.
Cost stability remains, but market analysts predict a rise in price. It should be noted that Spain is a major importer of oranges from the Republic of South Africa.
And if the country's citrus harvest is unusually scarce, Spanish retailers will be forced to increase the cost of production - both imported and scarce domestic.
