The new farm will occupy an area of 150 thousand. According to Guadrian, it will be the largest urban farm in the world.
City farms have become a modern and useful way to use even the smallest, most inconvenient or undesirable urban spaces for food. Such farms arise in unused factories, in former landfills, especially on the roofs of buildings around the world.
Among the largest and most famous urban farms in the world is an object in Brooklyn, whose area is about 65 thousand m². However, the new project of the French urban agricultural company Agripolis outgrew it. The new farm will occupy an area of 150 thousand m². It will accommodate about 20 farmers and 30 different crops.
The goal is to produce a huge amount (over 900 kg.) Of products per day at peak season. The farm will be located in the recently refurbished Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, an exhibition center near the historic Marais district.
To save space, the farm will be completely separated from the ground. The new company Agripolis will use the aeroponic method (growing plants in the air).
Cereals will be placed in vertical towers and mixed with a solution containing nutrients such as fertilizers that will dissolve in water.
Aeroponics has the potential to use less water than the soil and hydroponic method, and is a favorite among farmers working in small areas such as urban areas.
